Earthquake

There's been a catastrophic earthquake in Haiti this evening. There are reports that hundreds of thousands of people may have died. Please give to reputable organizations to help the desperate people there.

I'm sending out a prayer for my friend Lillian Deslandes, who's lived in Haiti for the past 33 years and for everyone else in this devstated country, the poorest in the Western Hemisphere.

  1. Lisa, Hope your friend is all right! 7.0 is huge. The Loma Prieta quake we had here was 7.1. Sending prayers and aloha to all the folks in Haiti!

  6. Agreed. Sending prayers and well wishes to all friends and families. Every time I see an update on my Yahoo home page, I pause and try to take a deep breath.

  7. And I want to emphasize REPUTABLE organizations. When Colombia had a huge earthquake in 1999, so much of the funds and food sent was squandered when donated -- not through the Red Cross and other NGOs that have established reputations.

Lisa, I'm sending a billion hugs your way hoping your friend and her family are fine.
    xoxo

  8. Thanks, everyone. I'll post something when I hear it. Lil, if you're out there, I'm thinking of you, and all the people of Haiti.

  9. Friends in her childhood hometown know her as
Lillian Meissler. I know her since childhood days and saw her about 7rs. ago when she visited me. It was before her parents moved.

  10. Hmmm.. so if you grew up with Lil then you grew up with me and I know you, too. Now I'm curious. My parents are in contact with her parents, and when they hear something, we'll know right away.

  11. I dearly hope, Lillian, will be found alive and well. Terrible time for all concerned.

May there be hope amid the rubble.
