DAY 6 A Guided Tour of The Strange World of BREAKING GLASS

There are a lot of historical references and bits of trivia in BREAKING GLASS and I spent a lot of time researching them. I thought for this Blog tour Gap Day I’d give you a little tour of some of the odds and ends.

KABBALAH

Jeremy Glass’ love interest, Susannah Durbin has an obsession with occult and a particular interest in a form of Jewish mysticism called Kabbalah.  Jeremy, desperate to unlock her mysteries and being the research nerd he is does some digging into this fascinating body of knowledge. If you want to learn a bit yourself, check this out.

Apparently there is quite an abundance of old carousels in New England, a fact Jeremy would find curious and fascinating:

Even though they hearken back to a time gone by, the hand carved antique carousels from the 19th and early 20th century still bring great joy to those who ride them in the 21st century. While they are not high-tech wonders, there is something addicting about trying to get the brass ring that will keep you coming back again and again.
There are 18 operating antique carousels in New England dating from 1876 to the 1940s. The two oldest operating carousels in New England also happen to be the oldest operating carousels in the United States. Here is a list of New England’s antique carousels:
In addition, Vermont has a Dentzel Carousel Company antique carousel on display dating from 1903 at the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont in their Circus Building.

by Lisa Amowitz
On the night seventeen-year-old Jeremy Glass winds up in the hospital with a broken leg and a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit, his secret crush, Susannah, disappears. When he begins receiving messages from her from beyond the grave, he’s not sure whether they’re real or if he’s losing his grip on reality. Clue by clue, he gets closer to unraveling the mystery, and soon realizes he must discover the truth or become the next victim himself.
